| Review: | The Need For Speed series of games has always been popular with driving/racing gamers. In recent editions the objective has been to outrun the police in exotic sports cars, or be the cop and catch the "bad guy" driving over the speed limit. With "Need For Speed Underground", Electronic Arts have taken the game in a new direction. Straight from the success of the films "The Fast and Furious" and "2 Fast 2 Furious", EA realised the potential of developing a game to emulated the high speed, high action under world of street racing portrayed in these movies. As you start out in the world of street racing you're stuck with a few of the lower end cars, but they're still fun to drive. The modifications in this early stage of the game are also rather limited. However jump into the races (including drag, drift, sprint and circuit), get a couple of wins on the board and before you know it you'll be unlocking some great new cars, equipment, and courses that you'll be eager to try out. The game features some of the most stunning graphics we've seen, with all racing taking place at night the producers have captured the light and reflections very effectively. The computer-controlled opponents will challenge the users driving skills without making them feel that the game is an impossible challenge. Underground is a must for all racing fans. |
