If you are looking for "go for it pedal to the metal" this is not the game for you. Colin Mc Rae Rally 2 features two modes "Arcade" and the more sophisticated "Standard Rally". Arcade allows you to race against several opponents on wider tracks. Standard Rally is pure rally racing and will really challenge your powers of concentration . Standard Rally is all about beating the clock, set-up and working as a team with your navigator. To start with you can select one of six cars (later 13) including a Peugeot 206, Mitsubishi Lancer, Toyota Corolla and Colin's own Ford Focus. Though the car sounds are similar the handling and power differ. The model damage is excellent and if you get it wrong you will end up with a very sick pup indeed. Fortunately (or is it "Un") the cars will sustain quite a lot of damage, the hood will start flapping, and the bumper will fall down on one side. Once you have totally demolished the car it will it will become harder to control and loose power. The controls are good and we enjoyed the feeling of sliding when driving a 4x4 vehicle. The annoying thing is that the car slides even at lower speeds giving the feel of driving on ice, with slippery terrain this becomes worse. A great action game with fine graphics that is sure to please most gamers. |
