Canto canters to Tassie with GRM

Press Release

Following a strong performance in his debut with Garry Rogers Motorsport last weekend on the streets of the Gold Coast, Dean Canto will return to drive for the team in the next round of the V8 Supercar Series at Symmons Plains in Tasmania.

Team owner Garry Rogers today confirmed that the Sydneysider would again steer the team’s #34 Repco Valvoline Cummins Commodore in Tasmania, however he was working through a list of candidates for the BigPond Grand Finale at Phillip Island in November.

Canto already has a commitment to drive for Dick Johnson Racing in the final round of the HPDC V8 Supercar Series, which he currently leads, giving GRM the chance to give another driver an opportunity for the weekend.

“Dean did a really good job for us on the Gold Coast,” said Rogers.

“He kept the car out of trouble and, while he didn’t qualify high up the grid, he applied himself to a calm approach to the races and worked his way up the order to be 13th by the end of the weekend – a fair feat on such a tight track.

“He has a season-long commitment to DJR for the HPDC Series and we respect that. So far I haven’t made any decisions about the Phillip Island event. I’m working through a few options for that and will make an announcement in due course.

“The team has been working very hard over the last few months and the momentum has been building with back-to-back fourth places for Cameron (McConville) at Bathurst and Indy.”

McConville’s GRM Commodore currently sits ninth in the V8 Supercar Championship Series, which moves to Symmons Plains in Tasmania for the Ferodo Triple Challenge on November 11-13.
