Jason Bargwanna

by Phillip Whelan

Always seems to be happy and with a smile on his face. Despite his out going nature he takes on motor racing with fierce determination.

Early days saw Jason racing mini-bikes and all sorts of open-wheelers.

His entry to V8 Supercars started in 1997 when he joined the Holden Young Lions program. The highlights for Jason in 1997 was claiming provisional pole position at Bathurst, unfortunately two days later in the warm-up for the race he smashed head on into a wall at "Forest's Elbow". That ended H.Y.L. race day and his career with the Holden team.

Garry Rogers however took Jason on in 1998 and was reward by some fine performances. His best effort was a debut win in the Valvoline Commodore at Calder Park. That year he also finished with a third place at Bathurst with legend Jim Richards.

Jason Bargwanna and Garth Tander won the 2000 FAI 1000 at Bathurst, in terrible weather conditions, proving to be a strong driving pair.
