About The V8 Supercar Series

By Phillip Whelan
The
V8 Supercar series, born out of the earlier Group A in 1997, has become Australia's
premier motor sport category.

The Series promotes the traditional head to head battle between Holden's Commodore and Ford's Falcon, these Australian manufactured sedans run 5.0 litre V8 engines with 6 speed manual transmissions. The cars weigh a hefty 1350 kg (Class limit) and are larger than their European counter parts, but smaller than US sedans. Various controlling bodies work with the teams to ensure that both makes are as equal as possible to ensure spirited close racing.

Each
year the series includes both sprint rounds and endurance events in Australia
and overseas, the Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama being one of the best touring
car events in the world.
